TikTok
Texts / Instant Message/ WhatsApp etc etc - I use them all, and I hate that I use them. It makes it harder just to pick up the phone and call someone. My friendships have been reduced to writing sentences to each other. It's a vicious cycle.
K-pop
Mumble Rap
Mumble R&B
Mumble Hip-hop
Skinny Jeans (Which is bad for you it seems....No joke...lol...)
3D fighting games overtaking 2D
Now, I am not gonna make fun of people who like K pop, Mumble rap or wear skinny jeans.......I am just not fond of them. I don't want to sound like the bully who makes twitter post bashing these things; that aint me.
It is just.....trying to search through important hash-tags to see some Korean dudes dancing that have nothing to do with it lol.......
Mumble rap.....well, back in the day...we could actually hear what our favorite rappers were saying. Thus, their music resonated with us. Substance was huge back in the 90s. So, it is kind like.....Maybe they don't have much to say so mumble it, which is fine for people who are fans, not knocking you lol.
Skinny jeans......yeah man, tried it, muscle aches for days....Quads looked good in them I guess? But I looked like a Hulk Sprite MvC....even though I am not huge perse....
3D fighters overtaking 2D........I guess it has more to do with aesthetics than game-play. Capcom & SNK had some of the most beautiful sprites. These chunky SF characters are not my cup of tea lol. I feel 2D in general needs to make a come back. If they made a new 2D SF...Wow......
If I had to mention a category of games, it would be this:
"Battle Royale"
For me it is something very repetitive and boring at the same time, you kill, they kill you, you reappear in the menu and so on.
and the worst thing is that almost many people talk about it.
I don't understand why many people like that, but well, everyone has their own tastes.![]()
":V" (yes. apparently is still a trend for some godforsaken reason. why did this had to become a thing...just let it die already. cheese)
Fortnite.
League of legends community(you know the community is bad that most vets recommend you to /mute all when the match even begins)
paywalls and bad implemented dlc(i recall that i bought one racing game and that car(which is cool) was behind a paywall which was season pass, that really ticked me off)
I guess I'm just not much of a fan of mobile games, specifically because of their overdone saturation of advertisements and microtransactions. I wish I could get into those types of games more but meh. I also don't like many trends involving horror based entertainment, like horror books, horror movies, horror video games, etc. When it comes to horror games I like Binding of Isaac and I plan on trying Bendy and the Ink Machine, but that's about it for me when it comes those types of games.

Same though, that's why i like the old PC games where you have to play the game and try some new things to unlock everything the game has to offer. (Especially fighting games where you have to finish the story mode to unlock a character and other stuff) I am not a huge fan of DLC games.
Power and money don't corrupt, they just reveal who the person really is.
People complaining about pixel-sprite graphics.
Similarly, people claiming any game that doesn't have a realistic look is for kindergartners.
Microtransactions and/or overpriced DLC.
When you ask for advice on a game and the only response is "Get gud."
Similarly, people who lob insults at someone for being a "n00b."
The rapid increase in internet/social media slang. If you don't spend most of your day on social media to catch these words as they're created you won't understand what anyone is saying.
People who think graphic violence in a video game is fine, but nudity is crossing a line.
YouTube's copyright infringement policies (I guess "fair use" doesn't exist anymore).
Dabbing. I shiver in disgust every time I sneeze into my elbow
One trend I don't like anymore (especially since when I was younger and I used to think it was cool) is "Irony", or "Ironic comedy". Like as a literary device irony works wonders and creates suspense which just increases the quality and enjoyability of the work properly using it. The "Irony" I'm referring to is the excuse many people tend to use when trying to be funny or poorly attempt shock humor. It's not to say that there aren't good dark jokes, but honestly speaking irony has just been reduced to an excuse used by people who have no sense of comedic timing, or just social tact (sorry if this came off as rant-y, I just don't like it anymore).
Oh, and another trend, Evo, or competitive fighting trend.
I am not knocking anyone who likes it (Not my style). However, I grew up during the 80s. Games were not patched because Balrog's punch was off by 0.5 of a second before the animation finished. Characters were stronger than others, but nobody really cared. It was a good time. MvC2 was pretty unbalanced, but no one really cared because it was a damn good time lol.
Now, everything is too technical. DLC and season passes are a thing due to the tedious effort it takes to balance every character (Or attempt to....). Therefore, devs feel the need to be compensated for that workload. Back in the day (Back in my day sonny..), you could release like 60 character rosters, and it was a good time.
Dhalsim and Zangief were difficult to play with during the 90s. People used Game Genies and whatnot to win with them. Those who did it without it, got street cred. If one could master, or win with one of these characters, you got props. Nobody screamed "Balance," they simply had a good time.
Again, I am not knocking people who like the competitive fighting scene just because I don't. It is just not my cup of tea. I am a story/party game guy. I used to play stuff like SF 2 and KI for the endings lol.
Everyone I knew struggled to beat the game with Zangief, and I would tell them "He did a dance at the end" and everyone at school was like "Awwwww man....I gotta beat it but he is difficult to play with..." lol

I really don't like paid cosmetics in games especially MMOs and fighting games, the main reason why i play games is to personalize my character and unlock the coolest stuff i can find, sadly games have adopted a trend to make all cosmetics paid, i dont really want to spend 20 bucks on a game just to have to pay for the cosmetics afterwards, im looking at you Black Desert.

DLCs, Tiktok, and Twitter. But the main thing i hate is DLCs because it's dumb to buy a digital product that isn't going to benefit you. It's better to just play the game and unlock something.![]()
