To anyone out there who suffers from Stress, I have something I want to share with you that I sincerely hope will help you like it helped me.
I used to do competitive Gymnastics.
For those who don't know, it is EXTREMELY stressful - mentally and physically.
No sleeping in on the weekend, endless travel for competition, diet plan, training training training, ALL during middle school & high school was STRESS =_=
Family and peers have expectations for you to succeed, also you are expected to succeed in your studies and get good grades at the same time...stress
But I was so lucky that we had an amazing Gym coach who gave me and our club advice that has helped me with stress even til this day.
He explained it like this:
"Think of yourself as a big Empty Pot of water. And think of Water, as Stress."
"We all need water to survive. too much and we drown, too little and we die."
"If the Pot is too full, it gets too heavy to use and overflows. Too little and it will evaporate"
"We all need stress to grow. Too much and we burn ourselves out. Too little and we become lazy and weak".
"An empty Pot is useless until it has something in it. So we have to add water to the Pot to make it useful"
"The secret is balance and knowing how much water your pot can fit."
"So you have to practice filling your pot, and emptying your pot until you know your limit"
"If your pot is too empty, add more water. When it gets too full, pour some out till it feels right"
The moral lesson here is that sometimes, stress can overload us because we have too many things going on in our lives unnecessarily.
Sometimes we need to stop. Breathe. Think. And start dissecting our lifestlyes and identify the stress causing elements and remove them systematically until we are only dealing with just enough for us to handle.
This technique helped me alot. Sometimes the solutions are right infront of us.
This may sound corny but it really works and I hope this concept is useful to other people suffering
