    Question I have an important question regarding M.U.G.E.N. versions

    You see, i have the anime stardust screenpack (M.U.G.E.N. v1.1) and i have been downloading chars, but they are for M.U.G.E.N. v1.0, am i gonna have a problem installing them? there have been some times when my mugen crashes due to a character being incompatible with the stages or other characters, anyways, i want to know, is there going to be a problem if i install chars or stages for the 1.0 version in the 1.1?

    (sorry for the bad english, you can answer in spanish if you want)

    mugen 1.1 has compatibilities with mugen 1.0, and sometimes Winmugen. It only depends on certain coding for some chars, but I've only seen that with winmugen chars (like insanely overpowered/ear-blasting/eye-melting cheapies) but those are rarely created nowadays, so you should be fine

    Just to add some confidence, I upgraded my Mugen 1.0 install to 1.1 before the final beta was even released and had no problems. (At least nothing that wasn't fixed by 1.1b1). Supposedly, people are managing to find problems with some 1.0 characters, but I can't recall any such thing. Generally, if there's an issue, it's some crappy Winmugen character using DOSmugen code that won't even run Mugen 1.0 or something similar.

    Occasionally, you might run into something that needs fixing. I can think of two main culprits.
    1) badly coded displaytoclipboard states : Just null them because you don't freaking need them
    2) characters with states that use stagevar for a trigger : Generates a wrong version error. Just null that, too. It's usually the remnants of a character from a fullgame or something useless

    Thank you too, for the info, but i basically don't know what you mean by null, of how to do it, becouse i barely know how to do anything in mugen thanks to some youtube tutorials, of you were so kind as to explain to me how could i do that it would be crear, thanks again, andá sorry for the trouble.

    Ok, for a quick example.

    Mugen might come up with an error on a character mentioning something about displaytoclipboard. So you will need to open the character's CNS files and null the offending state(s).

    Code:
    [State -2, 1]
    type = DisplayToClipboard
    trigger1 = 1
    text = "vel(%f,%f) Pos(%f,%f)"
    params = Vel X,Vel Y,ScreenPos X,ScreenPos Y
    ignorehitpause = 1
    Here's a nice example of working one, but if I want to get rid of it, I'd just null it like this:

    Code:
    [State -2, 1]
    type = null;DisplayToClipboard
    trigger1 = 1
    text = "vel(%f,%f) Pos(%f,%f)"
    params = Vel X,Vel Y,ScreenPos X,ScreenPos Y
    ignorehitpause = 1
    The semi-colon is a comment marker. Any time I make a modification like this, I like to leave the original data commented out so that I know what I did. type=null just tells mugen to ignore the entire state, so if there were a problem, it would now be fixed.
