Question Favorite Creature, Monster, or General Enemy.

Video games are a great place for people to stretch their creative muscle, and one can very easily see that in the bestiaries found within. From spirits to dragons, mutants to faeries, sentient plant to living magma, gods, planar beings, and seemingly infinite others; we get to enjoy some very unique and fantastical creations. Which one earned your awe or resonated with you in a way that really made an impression?

Edit: Guess I should probably answer my own question, eh?

I would say that the the Elder Wyrm from FFXII really blew me away. It was strangely beautiful in an ancient forest-avatar kind of way.

Morrowind has some strange and horrible beings in it, those are rather funny.

The first 3D game I saw was Quake, before I just played Mario world and some nes games like bomberman or excitebike. So watching those robots scared me as a child.

Oh god, I remember them! Hahaha, between the goofy look and that weird way they stomp about, it was hard to take them as a serious threat.

That is, until you realized that it was faster than you, and you ran out of stamina so you can't even hit it, and oh frick did it just hit me with poison!?!?!

That was a super fun game.

The Sprite work in SOTN blows me away to this day. Aye, Beezelbub was one creepy beast! I loved SOTN . . . I have to play it again sometime soon.

I came in contact with the "Wonder of Bestiary" pretty young, with a video game. It was Diablo, with the Fallen (some kind of imps) as my first encounter with something from another world. After that were the undead, demons, and jumped from games to games, books to movies, and discovering more and more while wanting more.

But among the orcs and elves, the spirits and dragons, even the gods and primal evils, it was Final Fantasy IV that introduced a monster that instantly became my favorite. The lamia.
I got the true feeling that there was no boundary to create mythical beasts. That you could make about anything if you have the imagination to birth them. It opened my horizon with such strength that every time I come across any kind of lamia, it feels right.

I don't know why this one in particular, could have happened with any monster, be it human-like or grotesque, pretty common or hidden in the dark corner of creation. But lamia will remain my favorite for that very reason.

The Lamia from FF4, I remember her. A beautiful example of when nature meets humanity. My first memory of a rendition of her is from Saga Frontier strangely enough.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about bestiaries. Something about a catalogue of strange creative beasts and the lore around them really appeals to me and never fails to make me happy. If I had the talent and resources I would make full graphic compendiums of creatures from my favorite games. Sadly, I have no idea how to make fine prints like one witnesses in well produced game walkthrough guides without going bankrupt in the process.

    But a man can dream . . .

My imagination is dead and I don't like things like lamias or centaurs very much, I prefer beings that look somewhat more credible.

I'm curious to what that might entail. Are we talking more in the line of soldiers and mutants? Werebeasties? Giant variants of things we already have? This isn't criticism, but rather curiosity.

My imagination is rather flattened as well, but that's one of the things that makes me like the fantastic all the more. I couldn't conceive many of the things that I see in games or read in books, so I'm rather pleased when I see something that adds to my repertoire of the unusual, I enjoy the surprise. It also helps me emulate imagination when I have to.

Lord Harkon, Arch-Curate Vyrthur and Miraak of The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim.

For their charisma as soon as you meet them for the first time. I find they have more prestige than the other enemies of the game.

Very Nice, plus good find on the pictures. I remember there was a chart of dragons a while ago that had colored and metallic dragons that I really liked, so much so that I remember a lot of it some ten years down the line.

Thanks kindly for the answer :).

I love me some charismatic enemies as well, the struggle against their point of view is much more fun when their motivations are understandable and compelling. It's fun to imagine going the other way and joining them in their strife against something they may have a legitimate problem with, something that I myself may have a problem with as well.

Yeah the FF series made some really awesome staples. I love the Malboros (ffxii's malboro overking is somehow adorable) Tonberries (Doink!!!), Cactaurs, and Behemoths are all just amazing classics that I love to see return every time.

The weapons were cool too, I can't tell which is my favorite, though I think Emerald Weapon would likely top the list for me, followed by Omega Weapon. I liked Omega Weapon's presence in FFVIII the most, and how ridiculously difficult it is (so long as you haven't broken the game difficulty by then).

Marlboro is one of the Final Fantasy creatures I've always liked, also because it always reminded me of Audrey II from the movie Little Shop of Horrors

Holy crap, it really does! Audrey II + Beholder = Malboro. Lol, I won't be able to unsee that mixture whenever I have the misfortune to come across another Malboro.

I love that movie, the music was phenomenal and the plant puppetry was amazing! I saw it as a play some few years after I saw the movie, and I didn't like it as much, it really lacked the star-studded quality of the movie. Funny that I never thought to associate the Malboro with the Audrey II, as it's a sure fit.

Audrey II seems to have been an inspiration for more than one video game ... Data East for example
