The "expand the character select screen" trick is probably the best method out there rn, though it does come with the tradeoff that the bosses aren't excluded from the random select feature. I've used this trick for minigames as well, and let me tell you it's a bit of a trip to hit random and spawn in as an immobile Honda lol.
