I don't have enough experience and knowledge to comment on the other opinions, but i completely agree with you on these points.
Dragon Ball was more realistic than DBZ because you didn't have to care about power levels, and characters used strategy to defeat people who looked stronger. It isn't about having a higher power level, just strength, skill and strategy. Human characters were actually valuable and important back then, it wasn't all about Saiyans. DBZ is all about Saiyans and who has a higher power level, no strategy needed, which can often cause boring fight scenes. It's not necessarily bad, but it lacks something.
And i agree on the pretty anime characters thing, a lot of modern anime use lolicons, s3xualize underage characters (not always children, can be young teenagers as well, like 13-17 year old characters wearing bikinis and other revealing clothes can attract a lot of people because people are obsessed with teenagers, real and fictional) to appeal to people and gain their 15 minutes of fame. However, i don't want to make it sound like a pedophilia thing, sometimes, some anime use ***** girls as well to get their fame and attract people. (But better that than lolis in my opinion, i don't find children attractive and they cannot consent so, the s3xualizations of them gives a red flag. People are afraid to do illegal things and make it look obvious so, they do them in a "legal" way to make it look not illegal and to avoid getting in trouble.)
Yes, i do appreciate good characters, but plot and storytelling is important in fiction (not just anime, fiction in general) as well. Fiction needs plot, storytelling, description of how do things work and why are some people the way they are. Good characters mean nothing if the story is pretty boring and lacking. But also, s3xually attractive characters can be bland and lifeless as well. Life isn't all about being hot and handsome. Someone can not be s3xually attractive in any kind of way, but still be a likeable and realistic person.
