Streets of Rage on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis).

My brother used to play this a lot, and I started taking an interest. Up until then he had just played fighting games on the Spectrum, which to be honest I never felt compelled to play.

My first fighting game was Virtua Fighter 5. Love that game, though the remake is not very good.

In an alternate dimension, there is Bird Archive. There, you download the bird fighters to defeat the bread aliens

I got into fighting games by playing games like MK vs DC and MK9. I also played Super Smash Flash 2 a lot. The aspect of becoming a fighter and defeating foes is what drew me in but the cool looking combos that I saw when I watched tournaments kept me around. I think my first game was MK9.

The King of Fighters series. Back in the day, it was almost custom that each convenience store would have at least one Arcade Machine (We used to call them 'maquinitas' in here). And, It'd usually feature a KoF game. As kids, we'd pile against the screen, buy chips, sodas and watch the most skilled kids challenge each other, pulling the sickest combos you'd ever seen (at the time, of course ). We'd share combos and move sets among ourselves. And once you felt ready, you'd insert your quarter and challenge whomever was playing at the time. Till this day, the King of Fighters remains my favorite and go-to fighting game. Though it really saddens me that the developers opted to move away from sprites and implement 3D models. it hasn't quite been the same ever since; at least for me

Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat 4 both appeared in front of me around the same time, although I watched more Mortal Kombat and played more Street Fighter. Honestly never really had anyone who would play with me, so I'd just be sitting all day playing arcade mode against AI, learning the cheesiest strategies. Good times. Now I know that MK4 wasn't all that great compared to SF2 and I'm glad I definitely played more of the latter.

    SSF2 fans REPRESENT!

as for me, my love of (and interest in) fighting games probably started with Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but what I know for sure is that games that hooked me were 3rd Strike (I saw the Daigo parry from a friend), Super Smash Flash 2, and probably USFIV and UMvC3

lol I don't remember my first fighting game, was probably Brawl
I'll make it through, prove it to you!

For me, it was Jump Force, Not the best introduction to the genre but it was pretty cool to me at the time. And since then I have come to adore fighting games.

Mine was Mortal Kombat 2011, which was also my first videogame, when I was like 8 so the insane gore and cool characters were the main reason I was so obsessed lol.

I've liked fighting games for as long as I can remember. When I was around 6 years old, my family went to a Dave & Buster's and I loved playing the arcade games there. One time I started to play on this Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection cabinet. It was the first fighting game I ever played, and I distinctly remember picking Kuma and button mashing my way to victory. I don't remember playing fighting games again until I was around 12-13 years old and playing whatever iOS ports of Capcom games existed like SFII, SFIV Volt, SFxTK, MVC2, and emulated GBA games like Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival. Ever since then fighting games have been my favorite genre, though my tastes eventually shifted away from Street Fighter and Tekken towards BlazBlue and Guilty Gear when I was 14. Nowadays my favorites are Guilty Gear and KOF.

My first fighting game... I still remember Smash 4 very well, both the Wii U and 3DS versions. It was my introduction not just to that series, but to fighting games as a whole. I really loved playing it, that goes for all the other games in the series that I managed to play later on in life.

I (used to) own Smash 4 on both Wii U and 3DS (the former physically, the latter digitally), and now have the 3DS version on Citra Emulator.
I played Brawl when I was at Colony Middle School in Alaska during my 6th grade year, and now have it on Dolphin Emulator.
I own Ultimate on Switch physically and have all the DLC.
And I played Smash 64 & Melee at Arctic Comic Con, and now have both on emulators (Project 64 & Dolphin respectively).

I got into fighting games when I was really young, I played Super Street Fighter II Turbo with my dad, and he taught me how to do every character's moves. I've since moved on to games like Skullgirls and GGS, but me and my dad sometimes still play ssf2.

I dislike fighting games entirely, but I enjoy MUGEN for the spectacle. It was perfected with Salty Bet where "gameplay" is removed from the equation.

My first fighting game ever was the PS1 port of KoF '98, but i wouldn't seriously start trying to improve at them until i got a 3DS and i got really invested in learning T Hawk's combo trials in SFIV 3D edition of all things (in part because around that time i had just started getting into SBFP's content). I guess you could say then that my first real fighting game experience was with the launch of SFV, when i finally started getting into ranked and playing people online.

Despite all the time that's passed since then, i still suck at them.

Earliest fighting game I ever played was Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.
I remember being blown away by the game's presentation, as well as the characters.
Funnily enough, it also formerly introduced me to the Marvel franchise just as it had introduced me to fighting games in general.
