Better way to organize thumbnails and images for downloads

This is something that has been bothering me for a while as a mod, when fixing broken or glitchy thumbnails (gifs). Because the oldest uploaded image will appear as the thumbnail in the search results, I've had to save and wipe out all the other images, and add them one by one. As opposed to just deleting and replacing said thumbnail. When you're fixing dozens of character/stage images, this becomes an arduous, time consuming task.

And when the thumbnail gets fixed, sometimes it doesn't appear in the order I want in the character page! I've been trying to keep them to the far left, but the system seems to do whatever it wants. I'd like for a way to re-arrange images, or bulk manage them for each download, anything that'll make the process more intuitive.

I've had this headache several times since I was a moderator, there were times when the metadata system broke when I was organizing the thumbnails and I had to turn to administrators for the system to be fixed (to this day I see this problem when I decide to organize the thumbails from older uploads).
