I think the very first fighting game I remember playing was the Super Nintendo version of Mortal Kombat. As in the one with censored fatalities and no blood. For those not familiar, let me explain, The home console ports of the original Mortal Kombat suffered from various changes due to censorship and other regulations. The SNES version, handled by Acclaim and Sculptured Software, had blood removed because of Nintendo's strict guidelines at the time over what can and cannot be shown in games on their consoles. On the other hand, the Sega Genesis version had blood and fatalities, but they could only be accessed by entering in a cheat code (ABACABB, to be precise). Because of this reason alone, the Genesis version sold more copies than the SNES version.
