Probably the most disappointing game I've played in recent memory was Kingdom Hearts III. Its not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination and deserves the praise that its getting from many people. But as a fan of the series that has played all the entries it just wasn't what I expected to be from the 'End of the Xehanort Saga' in terms of both story and aspects of gameplay (especially attraction flow which can make the game a cakewalk).

Kingdom Hearts 3, *ugh*. Why did they make it so easy? It looks beautiful, the music's wonderful, the story's.... the story, but why on Earth did they make those attractions (marketing nonsense aside.) There was also almost no Square Enix things in the game, which was also lame. No Sephiroth fight... :(

Recently, I personally felt Ultra Moon in the Pokemon series was way too handholdy. It's not that the game was bad- but having it so soon after the originals, and both of them feeling so linear and slow made going through Alola twice almost feel like a chore...

Ultima 9: Bought it at a thrift store and I knew how bad it was. Playing it made me see from experience how terrible it was in controls, something I feel some people critical of the game didn't mention to my knowledge.

In more recent times, there is Far Cry 5. I enjoy the game but liberating the regions from the cult makes me wish there were still enemies to shoot at outside of missions. And the endings, I really didn't like how the ending was all "rock falls, everyone dies." I get the idea of the bad guy winning at the end but I really didn't like how it railroads you into the idea that you have to try and arrest him in one ending when previously, you slaughtered his followers and killed his siblings.
