Default Where do I begin? :D

Lately, I've gotten more addicted to Mugen, although I'm still learning the little bits and pieces it has. But, I want to begin with making sprites and characters since it's already a struggle enough to find or wait for certain characters to pop up. Where do I begin? Are there programs I need to download in order to start creating characters?

You can check this board, especially sticky threads and sub-threads from them to know any program you'll need (lately also Fighter Factory Studio has been released, though I still use FF3).
About theory and know-how I think tutorial 1 is the first thing to look at (if you have the default MUGEN build, check the "docs" section, then "tutorial1.html", then you can go forward with more basic tutorials from that same directory or by checking KFM files CNS, CMD and DEF which are text files you can open with Notepad and read).
Be advised: it will take a while before you actually do something interesting so spend more time reading that stuff before getting into making something.

If you want additional advice: While it's great to want to begin building your very first character, it's easier to build a stage as a starting project. It can at the very least get you started as an introduction on how mugen itself functions for a stage. Which isn't much mind you, but you'd be surprised how well they work.

There are 3 types of stages: Normal, Animated & Interactive. the 3rd kind revolves around making The Character and The Stage the exact same. Bane84 is an example of this. Everything that mulambo said also holds true. So read up, and ask for help or advice when & where needed. You'll do just fine.
