Hm... Hardest game I've played? First game that comes to mind is Cuphead, but I could've sworn I played something that was harder...

Recently Sekiro and God of War (give me god of war difficulty), the beggining of Gow in GMGOW diff is a nightmare if you are playing in a clean file and start with new game instead of new game plus. To this day i havent beaten the valkyries
If multiple choices are allowed, King of Fighters '94 because of how much Rugal's Genocide Cutter damages your health, King of Fighters '95 because you have to fight Saisyu and Omega Rugal later without regenerating, because if you lost one or two teammate(s), if you have low health, it doesn't matter, Omega Rugal is here to troll you and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 were all hard for me. I even tried playing UMK3 on Easiest option and the AI still defeats me without trying.
Power and money don't corrupt, they just reveal who the person really is.
The first bravely default, still till this day I have yet to beat it without hacks. (I beat the second one tho)
Silver Surfer on the Nintendo Entertainment System, though I have played some games on the Commodore 64 and Atari 2600 that could give it a run for it's money I suppose. But Siver Surfer will always stick with me for how absolutely unforgiving it is. Great soundtrack, though.

I bought Beyond the Beyond purely on my remembrance of how absolutely awful it is, and you are not wrong about it feeling half finished... Especially the animations.. like having the characters shake their head "no" by sliding the head left and right on the sprite's shoulders...
On a PSX game. Incredible. We could probably start a whole thread on games that were hard -just- because of development incompetency. (Hello Deathtrap Dungeon, I am looking right at you.)
Good times!
Here's mine:
Super Robot Wars Impact (PS2)
Getter Robo Daikessen (PS1)
God Hand (PS2)
Ninja Gaiden Black - Master Ninja difficulty
DMC1 - Dante Must Die
Ninja Gaiden II (NES)
Any Dodonpachi or Touhou game
"I won't yield...this is what I pledge on these wings of mine!!"
~Violet-colored Demon Prince No. VII~Potential MUGEN creations coming soon. (aka when I feel like making them)
Hmmm... I think it was the first Gears of War on insane difficulty, did manage to beat it tho! Especially that last level was crazy. There are other that I didn't beat too.
Mortal Kombat 2, definitely. The AI in that game is ungodly difficult and input reads you to no end.
When it comes to cheap AI, KoF 2001. I would have said KoF XIII, but then I found out that Yuri's slap grab is unbeatable in that game- no skills needed, just get Yuri, time the grab right and slap the hell out of that big red bodybuilder and his Visual-Kei descendant
Dammit Igniz lol
Hollow Knight. I don't play many hard games but jeez that one kicked my teeth in. Getting told to get gud didn't boost my confidence either.
Ah dammit you meant all games whoops!
In this case, I dunno, still KoF 2001 or Dark Souls 3. Bosses are not THAT hard surprisingly, but the mobs are what get me all the time.

Dark Souls 3 Blood Souls Judgement Of Ash mod, there is a boss rush area with like 6+ bosses (only checkpoint being after the first boss) but to make things worse there is a constant bleed meter and if it fills you instantly die. Really cool to see new bosses that arent in the vanilla game but i wish they werent so difficult lol like tbh in difficulty rating base ds3 is a 3 out of 10 but the blood souls mod is like a 9 out of 10
In an alternate dimension, there is Bird Archive. There, you download the bird fighters to defeat the bread aliens

Talking about fighting games I really absolutely hate this piece of evlish game

The A. I. is hard as hell, the CPU is cheapo as well, the damage you inflict to CPU is too low comparing the damage that you, like a human being suffer... In fact the damage you can make it's pathetic.
Also most of the I Wanna Be The Guy clonics (mainly japanese creations...) just like in MUGEN... Owata FLASH game aaaaarrggghh!![]()
I will never get past labyrint zone in sonic 1.
ghosts n goblins
Star Soldier n64 Vanishing Earth, things get complicated when you select the difficulty level in "MASTER", for example the enemies shoot projectiles very fast (and sometimes they can even be difficult to dodge)
bosses have more health and some attacks change, etc.

Definitely Mega Man 8, it's just specifically the damned boarding parts in Wily 1, I still haven't beat it to this day, also the Mortal Kombat 9 Shao Kahn fight is frustrating since it's both a broken character and cheap AI, in terms of whole games, probably the first Mega Man
Art of Fighting 2 , imagine every single character in the arcade mode with the infamous SNK boss syndrome , that game is pure cruelty in a MVS cartridge
When I chose to play *unpopular opinion incoming* Death Stranding. Sam fell backwards while being stalked by BTs and while stuck in timefall. I responded by ragequitting, deleting my save and the app, and never looking back.
