Not really a developer yet, but I was wondering how I could modify .sff sprites for my own personal use. Do you just do it straight from Fighter Factory or something?

fighter factory can help you extract an .sff containing character sprites, or images. From there you can edit them through a drawing program that can handle .pcx files, .bmp, or .png. Keep in mind that it has to be palette compatible with 256 colors. I uploaded a program called MOS paint that can do that for you. It's not perfect but it works.
Check out mugen spriting tutorials for additional help. The latest fighter factory as well as some of the older ones have built in tools as well to help make the entire process easier. Good luck!
