I figured it would be a little fun to share a random fact about any topic from TV, history anime, video games, or even Mugen itself. Anybody is free to share a fun fact on this thread. Here's the first random fact I'd like to share.


Fortune cookies, contrary to popular belief, are not a Chinese invention. The earliest known form of the fortune cookie, known as Tsujiura senbai (辻占辻占煎餅), was invented in Kyoto, Japan in the 1800s. The cookies were made of a sesame and miso batter and the paper fortune was put where the cookie was bent, rather in the hollow portion. The modern fortune cookie was adapted by Japanese immigrants in the US in the before World War 2. The actual reason as to why fortune cookies are commonly seen as Chinese food rather than Japanese, is because when during the war, when Japanese-Americans were put in internment camps, several Chinese-American manufacturers managed to find ways to mass-produce the cookies, especially with the invention with the fortune cookie machine. This allowed the cookies to made and sold at cheaper prices, which led it to becoming a popular dessert/confection at Chinese restaurants all over America.

Jim Morrison (popular as a singer of The Doors band) had 141 IQ.

Believe it or not, the Declaration of Independence was NOT signed on July 4th, 1776. However it was the date the document was officially ratified/approved. The actual signing happened on August 2nd of that year.

that's not true lobsters age by moulting and eventually lobsters cant molt because their shells get too big(from moulting) and then they die because they dont have the energy to molt again, in other words they die from aging. i think you might be thinking of the immortal jellyfish which can live forever

In 2009, A Utah-based video game developer known as Sensory Sweep Studios was involved in a lawsuit regarding unpaid wages for its employees. It was the very first criminal prosecution of unpaid wage issues in the state of Utah. The company's founder and president Dave Rushton pled guilty to a 3rd-degree felony count of tax evasion and one 2nd-degree count of engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity. He was sentenced to six months in prison in addition to 72 months of probation.

The company was rather unremarkable, mostly developing PSP and Nintendo DS game based on licensed properties. Interestingly, their 2007 Xbox 360 port of Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting was the fastest selling Xbox Live Arcade game at the time

1. In 1590, one of the earliest-known smoking bans was put into effect by Pope Urban VII (who only held office for 12 days, before dying of malaria). He threatened to excommunicate (or expel) anyone using tobacco on Church grounds regardless if was chewed, smoked or even inhaled through the nose as a powder. Yes, people REALLY did that back then.

2. Circa 206 BC, A Greek philosopher named Chrysippus was in Athens, attending a feast in which saw a donkey eating a couple of figs and yelled out: "Now give the donkey a drink of pure wine to wash down the figs!" The joke was apparently so funny to him that he died after laughing way too hard.

3. Saint Lawrence,(225-258 AD) one of the seven deacons of Rome, was ordered to be roasted alive on a large grill. Despite suffering an agonizing death, his somewhat humorous last words were: "Turn me over! I'm done on this side!"

1. A total ban on all video games sold in Greece was put into effect in 2002. Shortly afterwards, the law was pushed to the side and eventually forgotten about.

2. Early versions of the original 1987 Street Fighter arcade game featured a "deluxe" cabinet with "punch pads" that players had to hit harder in order to deliver stronger attacks. This control scheme was flawed, as the cabinets wore down rather quickly. Capcom then replaced the deluxe cabinets with the more common 6-button control layout.

3. The famous backwards long jump trick in Super Mario 64 was first documented in 2000 by Jose Villareal and Dante Ruiz, 2 gamers living in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. Their trick was then submitted and published in an issue of Club Nintendo (the official Latin American magazine for all things Nintendo.)

4. There was a Latin American magazine in the early 2000s called Gametype that mostly focused on SNK fighting games, but surprisingly enough covered MUGEN on quite a few occasions. I seriously wonder how many people actually remembered Mugen before the days of Youtube and what not. Here's a link to one of the issues.

There was a bear named Wojtek that got enlisted as a cub in the polish army that eventually got the rank of Corporal. His favourite drink was beer, loved to smoke and carried weapons to the front during battles. He also would sleep with the other soldiers if they were ever cold in the night. He enjoyed wrestling with the soldiers and was taught to salute when greeted.

There is no evidence that Julius Caesar's actual final words were "Et tu Brute". It is believed that the Roman dictator may have actually said "καὶ σύ, τέκνον" which translated from Greek means "you too, child"? It has even been suggested that Caesar's last words were some sort of curse or even foreshadowing Brutus' fate; supposedly the whole phrase was something along the lines of 'You, child, will die soon" or "You, my son, will soon have a taste of power" The whole "Et tu Brute" quote was just made up by Shakespeare for dramatic effect.

Alright, time for a chemistry fact.
Manganese was replaced by Molybdenum in steel products, making them 50% stronger and 75% lighter.

Gladiators did not usually fight to the death, as often shown in popular culture. These matches actually had rules and regulations put into place to prevent causalities. Although some gladiators did die in combat, they were rather uncommon.
