I don't doubt of it, but actually I was sarcastic, trying to underline the attitude of common criticism as I've felt like a critic (while I was just unlucky because I only played depressing games... or maybe I don't need more games so this excess is making me depressed). Tastes are relative, probably a game that is golden in your opinion, is just bronze in mine, or viceversa a game you hate is a game I love. Matter of taste.

About new games in general, well, I got no money to afford them and I have so much to play still (GBA, NES, SNES, GBC, PS2, PC, etc...) but, by looking at their TV ads I can say they're increasing the amount of deviance year by year, ruining past series or inciting kids to kill random people with parkour moves.

Not so fast. You not getting old i meant. sometimes there is a good one popping up and sometimes there is a lot bad games to be released.
sometimes even a good game can be depressing if it is not good for the mood you are actually in, same like with music or other media.
what i've to admit is, it was easier liking a game back in the days because people were not used to buy or try games after reading

well, I do that too, but sometimes it's easy to recognize a correct critic and differ him from a frustrated one or another kind of critic who's paid exactly to talk bad about certain stuff / built a reputation of "destroyer" and so on... there are many critics, I guess, they don't follow the same criteria, so I think people first follow the reputation of a critic, then they follow the reputation of the game (as said by the "chosen" critic). I'm talking, of course, of those people who have brain, for the rest... I guess the first result of a google search is enough, but we all make that mistake once in a while. Generally, I don't care, I judge by the screenshots. If it's a game my PC can run and my money can take, I'll get it. If not, goodbye.

Hmmm...Personally i followed critics to much for to much time years ago, think i missed a lot cool stuff cause of that. when there is a game like...dunno...
"little nemo the game" and you dislike that Char or Film you don't buy it of course, neither do i. Last Time i bought a Game called Infernal wich is a Horror-Shooter
with a really really silly Story, but i will test it, think it could be nice. last year the guy who did maniac mansion released a new original click and point game,
old-school style of course. i will play it. don't know anything about the ingame stuff. but what can happen at worst-case ? the same as you said, "goodbye".waiting trying out the next and maybe bingo. to me google is good for checking genres like "horror 3rd person shooters" the rest is decision by title or cover don't need critics for that. you are looking for something specific you like to play actually?

@TheShepherd82 well thematics are also important, I don't play whatever.
For example, I wouldn't play "Master Chef" games, chicken shooting, granny-killer, or teletubbies, lol but this is obvious.
Personally, I'm looking for anything cool an old-school 2ghz can run smoothly at least at 800x600 resolution, mostly FPS (since the PC is perfect for FPS) . Perfect example: RTCW, Max Payne, Serious Sam, GTAVC, CMR2, Half Life, Zombie Shooter, other games with similar graphic to PSX (so, developed between '98 and '02, as most games after '02 start to be more laggy). Something in between the quality of PSX and PS2.

@mulambo yes they are important the thematics, but sometimes have to skipped a little :laugh:

from the things you named i could give you the names "splinter cell" (2001/2002 ps2, stealth-shooter), "cold fear" (2004 ps2, zombie-shooter) or parasite eve 1 + 2 (psx).
but parasite eve is round-based, just to mention that. hope you don't know those games, hope i could help.

Finished Inside by Playdead Studios and it was a goddamn masterpiece. Brilliant gameplay, thoroughly creepy atmosphere and fun puzzles made this a slam dunk for me.

GTA Vice City Stories for the second time. Hated it the first time i've played it, hated it the last time i've played it. it's not fun. I've only played because i'm playing all the GTA games for the ps2.

8 Eyes (NES)
More like "8 Balls" because ... the main hero has to go through 8 insane, loopy, extra difficult dungeons. Extremely boring, the only interesting thing was a Heihachi-lookalike as one of the enemies

and with a walkthrough... at the end a gargoyle appears and start telling you're awesome, but I guess whoever bought this game back in those days... didn't make such a big deal.

3 Ninjas Kick Back (Snes)
Another badly coded game. The graphic are nice (beside the scary cutscenes), but the game is overcrowded with any sort of enemy which sometimes are invincible / respawn, the gameplay is difficult (expected something smoother) and the variety of weapons is limited. A bad game... badly based on a bad movie.

1080° Snowboarding (N64)
Too bad, the graphics and sounds of this game are awesome, but the control system and AI is badly done (the Cool Boarders series is much better, in comparison). Too technical on the landing part, too complex in execution of tricks (sometimes glitchy and retarded), very limited skill set. Anyway, a great game, I just wish it had a better gameplay. After playing this game, I give it a 3rd place after Cool Boarders 4 (PSX) and Supreme Snowboarding (PC).

Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario.

The recipes in Super Paper Mario were a hassle, along with the cards.

The last game I completed on any percent is Rhythm Heaven Megamix for the Nintendo 3DS. As for a game I finished 100%, it's either Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 or Luigi's Mansion for the Nintendo Gamecube. I can't remember which though.
