Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
I think it's possible. Elecbyte might come back (again.) this decade release the full version of Mugen 1.1 and release Mugen 1.2b.
But... On the flip side Elecbyte might be perm dead this time around and it will not happen.
What do you think. Sadly i dont think it wont happen.

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
They are officialy dead now since 2013, when the beta release of MUGEN 1.1 just came.
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
No. Elecbyte is dead and if M.U.G.E.N comes back ever I'll film myself eating dog food.

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
What games Elecbyte responsible for? I always believed they made some famous fighting games since you know.. they released that great fighting engine

They only made M.U.G.E.N (The project started around 1997 or 1998 according to them (i think), it was originally going to be a space shooter game engine but when they noticed that there weren't any good commercial fighting games for the PCs at the time, it turned into a fighting game engine, the inspiration came from SFIBM (Customizable fighting engine for IBM PC's similar to SFXVI for Sharp X68000, both came before MUGEN) ) though.
It used Allegro as a engine base since 1999~2002 (DOS/Linux) when now they use SDL as a recent engine (Since 1.0).

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
Given how it took 6 years for Elecbyte to release 1.0 after developing the WinMUGEN beta, and how it took 4 years for them to release 1.1 after 1.0 (which adds up to a 5 year gap between versions on average), I'd say there's a good chance of something like 1.2 coming out within the next few years.
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
I dunno if that'll be possible since Mugen's always kinda been niche, with a few spikes in activity once a fandom shows up and makes stuff for it.
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
With the company behind M.UG.E.N dead I doubt it will happen, unless some people online decide to make a 1.2. But with all the modding for it already I think it doesn't need to happen so it probably won't.

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
No but at least there's IKEMEN GO/GO Plus (an open source MUGEN clone) though: https://ci.appveyor.com/project/Wind...GR01/ikemen-go

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
The problem is not to have a new engine, but the assets that go with it. Not enough HD stages and characters available at the moment in my opinion.

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
Unless they give the source code to us, we could get a Mugen 1.2 after their relase of a stable 1.1 or something. By then, they could add in new modes or something that other fighting games have that are difficult for Mugen.

Agreed. It is evident that they do not intend to commercialize their client considering that they released it for free. Not to mention that even if they were intending to, they would not be able to, because many years have passed, they've missed the gaming developments and therefore the client is outdated. I don't see why not to release the source code in github for example. The community would do more in a month than they were doing in 5 years time. Furthermore, the client would gain popularity; new people would come in and old timers would come back, whilst they would keep their license in view of profiting. Make the community happy, then profit (mentally and materially).

It's not impossible but it's unlikely

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
how do you know if its coming tomorrow? elecbyte has left the internet and has never came back since
- - - Updated - - -
also the last tweet elecbyte made was may, 2016. this shows a sign that he is alive
- - - Updated - - -
and he could be coming back to the internet

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
Mugen 1.1 is still beta, although I would like what improvements it could have.
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
Not a chance, IKEMEN Plus and it's derivatives have basically become MUGEN 2.0
-
Ikemen Go is the most likely spiritual successor to Mugen.
Most of the original Elecbyte Devs have long quit and only a few still lurk on some forums such as <insert banned sitename>
It still is quite far from being a 100% replacement for Mugen 1.1 as there are many bugs still slowly being ironed out, also many of the smallest basic features from 1.1 like alternate resolution in window mode still haven't been added.
I would mention another ambitious project called unrealfighter 2D which uses the Unreal engine, however that will never replace mugen because the author charges monthly for using it, which will only suit a small number of people willing to pay or make commercial games.
But the closest thing to a true Mugen 1.2 we have, is Mugenhook by ermaccer, because it is still using the core 1.1 engine and has potential to add a large variety of things to it.
https://www.newagemugen.com/t4046-mu...eased-14-06-21
it works the same way as API loaders (i forget the correct term) work in some PC games like GTA which are heavily modded by the fanbase.
It is quite impressive and i encourage any Mugen 1.1 fans to look into it if you have not already

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
One day, they'll be back.
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
i definently dont think so
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
It's impossible because it doesn't have commercialization
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
I don't think of any "Elecbyte things is active" in the future.
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
I don't think, But i wish.

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
Well what else was there left to do with the engine??? Seems like it would only improve a few more things. I think we're somewhat good for now. We were extremely lucky to get a comeback 10 years later the first time. Who knows!? The original comeback was like a rebuild of the original or something because the original was lost somehow and the original team was drastically changed on the updated new version 1.0 and up, and only the play program version was available to alter which I guess was limited.
If it does come back in the future it'll probably be lost again and would have to be rebuilt all over again from scratch all over again!!!
Though there are already other mugen clone programs out there that can run mugen characters already but the problem is no one is interested in that or developing any content for it. I don't know I think the fans have a problem with these versions? There's even an unreal version that got developed but nobody cares about it. Some claim to be even easier to create for it. Ikemen is also another one that does more but again not any interest seeing as how we're all still talking about current elecbyte hopes and dreams for real mugen development :P
So yeah maybe another 10 years if anybody that worked on that feels like picking it up again and making it happen. I think MFG pissed off elecbyte because their private beta testers leaked an unfinished version; like the original winmugen/linux incident back in 2000 something??? and that caused them to rush a quick release of that beta and then basically disappear after that. Like history repeated itself or something!? Guess we're stuck with another buggy final release it seems. :no_clue:

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
I doubt MUGEN 1.2 will happen. At least anytime soon. But I like to imagine Ikemen as the spirtual MUGEN 1.2 lol
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
Don't think so, Elecbyte has been gone for so many years...
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
Probably not, unless electybite comes back to it.
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
There are a few urban myths in circulation on some discord channels regarding elecbytes current status but without sources to back its all to be treated as speculation in my opinion.
One thing is certain however.
Whether it is Unity Mugen. Ikemen Go, PLus Ultra, Unreal FIghter 2D, or Virtualteks Mugen 1.2 update project, or Mugenhook, or even a return from Elecbyte, Mugen will continue to evolve.
Lockdowns and the worldwide Pandemic played a big part in making alot of old retired Mugen creators return to mugen after long hiatuses.
Examples of this are POTs, Warusaki to name the most well known of course. Who knows. Nothing is impossible. Whether it will be still needed or wanted in years to come will be interesting to see considering what we already have as potential successors
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
Its most unlikely, however thx to MUGEN modders and other devs within the community, they've helped improve and recover Mugen :)

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
I don't use any version of MUGEN, except the MUGEN that ElecByte worked on themselves,
& SofiaCat worked on InfCat which I don't count as a Version of MUGEN...
Any of those Modified Versions I consider to be 3rd Party, I don't consider 3rd Party Cannon...
----------------------------------------------
That Said:
I don't think ElecByte will come back to be sadly honest...
Reasons: I don't recall ElecByte ever shutting their Site down the last time they Quit??
---- I think this time, they were serious...
---- Again, they said they were doing this for us, it was out of the kindness of their hearts, & they felt very serious about "Leaks"
---- This isn't the first time, a "Leak" got out, or that MUGEN has been modified by other People.
---- But this may have been the first time that ElecByte was serious about quitting...
They were dealing with school at the time, & this was only meerly a side project they were doing on the side...
---- I think, & am honest here?? I think MUGEN is done for good, & this time they quit for real...
But hey? Anything is possible, I mean look at MUGEN right now?? Even without ElecByte
People are still not throwing MUGEN away... They still run it like it was Day 1 of it releasing...
SOOOOO, I guess anything is possible at this point, ^_-
I do however see it slightly slowing down, & stagnating with lack of Contributors, though...
& to be honest? As long as Big Studios are screwing up badly? I hope that this isn't the time MUGEN dies off...
I really hope MUGEN starts showing a boom real soon, cause I don't want it to die off...

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
I don't know much about mugen and all previews versions. but maybe we could get a newest version if its possible.
-
Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
The only way it happens, is if some very talented programmer basically recreates mugen from scratch, but better. It would have to be familiar enough to where former MUGEN users could easily figure it out, and old files would be easily translatable... but its such an old program.

Re: Do you think M.U.G.E.N 1.2 will happen?
I think AI technology will eventually revolutionise the process of making sprites and coding. I'm not sure how, yet. But I think it will be able to do a lot of the heavy lifting in the future, allowing the creator to concentrate more on the creative side of things. I expect the future fighting game engine to use some kind of AI technology.
