I would give it a 10/10 for its almost unlimited array of characters and stages!
I would give it 11/10, because you can have a roster of thousands of characters
It depends really.
As far as 2D fighting game engines go, it's a pioneer without a doubt with many possibilities, in fact i love how you can actually "replicate" many real games using it and all that jazz.
So yeah, it could be a 10/10, but... the lack of updates is pretty much a downside in my opinion, also a lot of configurations are not intuitive at all, like graphic ones.
8,5/10 for me.
7.8 outta 10. Not joking, it's complicated for newcomers to do stuff with the engine such as compiling/making their own stuff.
10/10 for sure. There is so much that you can do and no two Mugen games are the same.
it loses 1 point for be closed source
loses 1 point for be windows only
loses 1 point for the original devs run away
loses 1 point because of the mindset of communities and people and their teams
so 6/10
7 out of ten most of the characters on mugen are bad
I'd probably say a 9 solely because the learning curve for creating a good character is fairly steep for newcomers but the endless potential of the engine and things possible within it cannot be understated.
9/10
Loses .5 for lack of online multiplayer.
And another .5 for how hard it is to create your own character.
10. Being able to do all the matches I want makes this one of my favorite games.
I would say 8.5/10
The learning curve as stated is very steep but the combinations of fighters and characters are unlimited
I'd give it a 8/10. Yes, I do find M.U.G.E.N to be entertaining and amusing to play. However, it sometimes gets boring, causing me to withdraw from it from time to time, so there you have it. I know some of you think the ranking is off, but to me, I think it's just about right in my opinion.
Mugen is great in many areas but has flaws in many areas as well. I wouldn't personally say it was a 10/10 or 11/10 for the simple fact that Mugen usually isn't super polished to competing with real 2D fighters from the classic golden era or modern era. It could get there, but at the end of the day, Mugen should be treated like an actual game. It deserves that kind of respect and attention. There's so much potential. I've had some people tell me Mugen is not a game. Mugen is based on fighting games, therefore it can and should be treated like a real fighting game. There's a real split and divide between the fighting game community and the Mugen community.
10/10
point deduction:
- 1: random crash, shut down when playing halfway through without error message
- 1: difficult to contact oversea/retire Mugen creators if there are major glitch in their characters
- 1: difficult to find/adjust slots for the right amount of my roster
- 1: difficult in planing my roster since characters don't play to my liking
6/10
Well, depends on what you download, there are all sorts of mugen characters, stages and games that its hard to rate, but I would personally rate it 10/10
i would rate 8/10
the game is great but im just having a hard time setting the files
9/10 why this game no is online
9/10 because of freezing and file issues but other than that it is pretty fun to mess around with
I would rate 15/10, for all the memories, it gave me.
8.5/10 It is an awesome "game" but at least for me it crashes constantly, char creation is really a difficult task and it lacks of a multiplayer.
i mean, it does have its issues but out of all i'd give it a 8.9/10 for how many possibilities it creates
also closed source
9.5/10 I can download basically anything. But lose 0.5 points cuz of the seldom crashes.
I guess 10/10 because of it's infinite possibilities and the fact that it's a legitimate fighting game engine
7/10 for all the problems i had with version specific characters, especially those requiring winmugen to even be selectable.
The potential of the mugen is excellent, I think a 9 out of 10 is a correct evaluation
The problem, if anything, comes from the fact that this potential is exploited very well by a few, very few authors
7/10 because:
- Compiling everything for your build can be tedious
- Making characters can be even more tedious (but can have a rewarding payoff, as with the above)
- Elecbyte's gone and MUGEN's closed source
7/10
In general is a game that can last you forever, but the big number of bugs and gamebreaking glitches make me give it a 7.
I honestly give it a 7-8 out of 10
The reasons why are
The VAST AMOUNT of customization and expression creators and players have
The ablilty to edit and add seemingly anything you want
The wide variety of characters and gameplay styles represented
However, a few bad things are the fact there's no online mode, and some of the characters are either badly designed, or just don't work
i would give it a 9.1/10.
I would just rate it as 9/10 overall. MUGEN is just great and i love it, but putting in music, characters , stages, and screen packs has a little learning curve. Other than that, the program is super fun and love the customization possibilities it can have.
7/10 because it is very flexible but sometimes can be very hard to work with
maybe I would give each Mugen engine a different rating:
Dos Era (Based on the engines I have played):
Mugen 01.01.2000: 10/10
Mugen 31.07.2000: 10/10
Mugen 01.04.2001: 6/10 (The removal of Team Co-Op into Team Arcade and Team Versus was not to my liking)
Mugen 14.04.2001: 7/10 (Glad to see Team Co-op back, but I prefer the older version's team menu)
winMugen (Rouhei's hack): 6/10 (playing halfway through and it keep on freezing during match unless if I use usb controller to play)
WinMugen Plus: 6/10 (Even with the new hi-resolution enhancement, the freezing during match problem is still not fix)
Mugen 1.0: 7/10 (freezing during match problem is fixed, but new problem arise when playing halfway through, it cause sudden close down depending on the roster)
Mugen 1.1: 7/10 (Same reason as Mugen 1.0)
I feel like the biggest problem is the random crash problem occurs in the Mugen engine
7/10. Many characters are great if you know where to look but it isnīt that easy to get into it, I know from experience.
10/10 it has lots of posibilities and is free, also it has an active community, definetively 10/10
i would rate it 11/10 because it actually made my imagination come true. i never thought i could imagine playing with different characters also kudos to Mugen creators
In all honesty, I would give M.U.G.E.N a solid 7.5 in my opinion, It's a really good game engine, it's influence on fighting games seems rather interesting as you can do whatever u want with it, and no copy of MUGEN is the same since everyone has a different style and in some case rather unique. SaltyBet is sorta like the main ambassador for M.U.G.E.N as a whole as that's where I believe most people came from and some big YouTubers even participate in the betting site, I might be wrong here so feel free to correct me on this. Even the history behind M.U.G.E.N is interesting and how the creator(s) just left this behind for maybe other projects. People make dedicated site JUST for this engine alone since the original site is down. This proves that despite some toxic situations that arrive, the community is very strong in many ways. I tried the engine, download some characters, and it was satisfying. I had a good time with it. can't give this a 10 because there are problems I don't think are gonna fixed anytime soon, first being that the more character you download the more it just loads. 1000+ characters and stages can take up to several minutes to sometimes an hour to load as soon as you open the .exe file. second, that it's somewhat complicated to add them to M.U.G.E.N without knowing how to edit the .def files unless you can convert .def or .cfg to something like notepad or the more advanced version Notepad++ which uses the language C++. Overall, it's a pretty good thing to have when you're bored.
10/10. there's alot of good characters, good stages, and you can have thousands of characters and stages available as far as i know
9/10. Sure it has some hiccups, but it runs really well. And you have this very website and some of the best creators that it has to offer to make it even better!
So whenever you can, give them your thanks!
8/10. A great game but there are some minuses.
