Title says it all, but yeah, how did most of the folks around here, be it the admins and regulars, first encountered the MUGEN engine?
And how'd that story came to be?
Also, kind of a 'new'ish user to the forums here, so...hi! *waves*

For me personally, I heard about MUGEN from the old days of YouTube. Was just casually searching up video game battles and then saw an old version of this and I was just like "what is this and where I can play it". Since then, I've been somewhat addicted.
MUGEN first appeared on YouTube as a recommended video between Popeye vs Scorpion. It was very weird back then, Scorpion pulling out his mask and burned Popeye alive scared me as a child a lot, but now, I'm just meh at it.
Ah YouTube I see, that makes some sense.
My personal encounter with MUGEN was with one of those, CDs with 'games' in it.
And at the time as a kid, I thought the game itself was called MUGEN, since it had a whole lot of KoF fighters in them.
KOF Clark was some OP stuff there for some reason, with a one-button kick that does ALL the damage, compared to the other fighters. :thonk:
I started out a little lame and kinda bad But know I'm not like that anymore.
i've always known about it, but one day i just said screw it and now have a massive joke project ahead of me
Youtube as well, also briefly from some friends. Been using it for a couple of years at friends houses until i got my own PC.
Honestly, it was back in around 2018 or something, whenever that Ugandan Knuckles meme was popular. A MUGEN fighter of him got released so I downloaded him for giggles and because I had never heard of MUGEN before, I had played it before though, I had played that Hyper Dragon Ball Z thing like a year prior once. And iirc that's also MUGEN based so yeah. I had my interest sparked again because one of the guys in a Discord server I'm in plays MUGEN a lot in our voice calls, then my other friend picked it up. So I decided "hey why not!" and that leads us to now.
It was about Year ago when I downloaded mugen just because I wanted to see what it was cause I had seen youtube videos with it. So I tried it, It was the old version but I eventually learned how to add characters and stuff. Now I have alot of mugen games. Mainly Dbz ones.
Old YouTube was the glory days of MUGEN. I miss when Ronald McDonald was really popular, it was a lot of fun.

I was on a forum I used to frequent where fighting games came up. One user mentioned mugen and i got curious about it when he talked about having a match between goku and superman i google searched it and the rest is history.
Youtube brought me here:)))
Me and a friend wanted more characters (casual Heritage players) and MUGEN was that answer. That was like 2 weeks ago lmao
