Geocities.JP, the last geocites, is closing down on March 31st, 2019.
1. What is Geocities?
GeoCities is a website maker born in USA, 1994.
2. What is Geocities JP?
3 Years later, Geocities made into Japan in 1997.
3. How it ended?
Every Geocities, except Japan, ended its service in 2009.
4. What should we do?
If you found the sites that are affected, please post the links here and help us archive them before it's too late !
Here is the affected sites that I found. (Some links may not be archived)
Re: !!!WARNING!!! Ceocities JP is Closing Down
sorry to see it happen, but that is the way of the net sometimes, if the creator is still active/alive, the content will be made on a new site builder, like the new Squarespace (think is the name, not sure) and the content will be available again.
so here's hoping that those geocities users' content doesnt go away forever.
Re: !!!WARNING!!! Ceocities JP is Closing Down
Except a huge fraction of those author sites are frozen in their early-mid 2010's and seemingly abandoned. Geocities has been one of the biggest hosting sites for Japanese Mugen content and with the threat of extinction looming over them, who knows how much is about to get lost. The Geopocalypse, as I shall dub it.
As a start, I have already cleaned out a few of those sites. It will be a painfully monumental task to salvage them all, the best we can do is reduce the damage as much as possible.
@Dizzy could you verify for everyone that this news is legitimate?

Yes it appears to be legitimate :

Yahoo Japan announced today (Oct. 1) that it will shut down (link in Japanese) its GeoCities service in March 2019, 22 years after its launch. The company said in a statement that it was hard to encapsulate in one word the reason for the shut down, but that profitability and technological issues were primary factors. It added that it was full of “regret” for the fate of the immense amount of information that would be lost as a result of the service’s closure.
This is terrible news, I'm going to promote this thread for the homepage news, and I hope our members can help avoid another huge data loss for the MUGEN community. In the past we collectively archived freett content before it got shut down, let's just hope we can do it again.

For now I think the priority is to collect the urls of all MUGEN websites hosted on Geocities JP. Then hopefully the community will collectively purge the list.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
This is already looking nice so far, I had quite a list of links to offer but it looks like all of them have been covered. I'll see if I can find any others.

I'll try to ask some friend to post for me.
You can exclude the "http" from the URL and it won't register as a link.

There is no rule imposed on how much you can upload, so as long as you are respectful to the upload rules (posting in the right category, adding proper info, not posting repacks or duplicates) anything is fair game. Just don't upload like 30 stages in a row with the same name or people will complain about it. Personally I aim to keep it within 15 per day, as an active uploader.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
This is going to be huge. We have 5-4 months left (a fair amount of time granted, but still a ticking time bomb) and Hundreds or even thousands of sites to collect files from. No doubt, this is going to be a very important task for us all to join in. Just think of all the poor TouHous and JoJos that could be lost in the wild offline realm forever! These situations are why this very archive is so important. It's for major, unthinkable events like this.

No, no, no, no. Damn it, you just brought this on another level of danger.

In theory we still have a few months but it seems a number of these sites are already down, I wonder if this is related to the incoming closure. I have updated the opening post with the sites you covered completely. I hope other moderators can help maintain that list so that nobody waste their time.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
I archived these two links because I can't change the extension from zip to rar.

A majority of these links in general have already been archived here.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed

I'm not sure whether to include links for non-mugen content, so I'll revert the change.. for now.
What would be appropriate, Dizzy?

Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
OK, I don't need to post the link anymore, Chucho send it to some friend, and it's posted now.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
I've made some changes in the list:
-Organized the links into categories
-Removed any duplicate URLs
-Added the author name next to the links
I'll be backing up pages and content with the Wayback Machine as I go through the list of links. Those sites will be marked with a cross in their URLs.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
To make this more consistent with the Freet thread, I have made further changes to the list: Author names that have their sites backed up via the Wayback Machine will be highlighted in bold, while URL's with all site content uploaded here, will be striked out. I've also added a few links of my own.

Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
Finished archiving all of the available online links, so the web content can be accessed at any time. There are still links yet to be identified, but at this point I'm too tired to care :P
For now my job is done, but it's not yet time to celebrate. If anyone could bring new Geocities links, I will add to the list and save them as soon as I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@furfang40X those links were already added, but thanks anyway.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
so while everybody celebrate @Juu-bei7 why nobody cares about kfa?!?!?!?!?
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
@pepe21 Don't panic!! I was working on your list too. I was gonna post on your thread once I finished >_>
I'm like, halfway there.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
Ok @Juu-bei7 i apologize sorry everyone of my rudeness but kfa is also a mugen because there was a project to make it backwards compatible with it but never happened...
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed

@CoolAnimeHustler That's actually for Knuckle Fighter X/Alpha, a fighting engine similar to Mugen. And I've already covered that site in pepe21's thread. Sorry ;-;

Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
@Juu-bei7 I wanted to supervise this, but I'm so impressed at the work you're doing here that I'm going to leave it up to you. You certainly have great coordination and leadership skills, I'll keep that in mind.
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
So why don't go with you family @Dizzy i mean your husband and your son are waiting for you...
Re: Article: !!!WARNING!!! Geocities JP is Closing Down, Help Needed
Thank you @Dizzy. The loss of many works due to the Freet and Infoseek shutdowns still saddens me, even today as I visit those sites through the archives. I am very regretful of the fact I wasn't here to help... those feelings drive me to do what I'm doing now.
I just have this feeling.. it's going to be successful this time. We've got dedicated members helping out. Everything is much more organized and our priorities have changed. Let's hope this will be one of many great achievements here on MA!
